Week 34 Developments
The weekly update that I receive in my email says for the thirty fourth week:
My favorite part was of course the part about the lung development being close to ready for real life! I feel now I can safely start on the heavy house cleaning that I want to get out of the way before Koen’s here.
Our little boy already has all of his infant clothing unpacked…all we lack in newborn diapers and carseat installment. Darren hates carseats and so far doesn’t install them until the moment that the nurse tells him that he has to take us home! I feel fully ready to have this baby, at the same time though I want him to stay in there just as long as he’s meant to be there..well, up to ten days over due, any more than that would be too much for me.
Praying for continued blessing in this pregnancy–all I want is a healthy baby. 🙂
Your baby now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which she’ll need to regulate her body temperature once she’s born — are filling her out, making her rounder.
Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well.
If you’ve been nervous about preterm labor, you’ll be happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine.
They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies.
Oh yay! He’ll be here soon – And you’ll have your hands FULL!
May everything go well for you in the coming weeks 🙂
Congrats, again!
About the car seat – did you know that 90% of carseats are installed improperly? It’s an incredibly complicated process and there are people trained (a 32-hour class!) in Bellingham that will do it for free!
Call Jean Jenkins at the Whatcom County Health Department (360-676-6762 xt. 32107) and ask her about the next car seat check up event (most likely at a local fire department) or ask if you can make an appointment with a technician in the area to bring your seat and car in and have it installed properly. They will also check (and fix if necessary) Deeder and Carly’s seats. Of course, once Koen is born you’ll want to attend another event or have another inspection because fitting the baby in the seat properly is just as important as fitting the seat in the car properly.
Yes, I used to be a certified car seat technician, why do you ask? 🙂 I hope this helps you and Darren!
